Discover the world of Bournemouth Freemasons and the heart of our fellowship, the Freemasons’ Hall our home of history, learning, and camaraderie.

Welcome to Bournemouth Freemasons

A modern fraternity with centuries of British heritage, meeting at our historic Freemasons’ Hall here in Bournemouth.

Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and most inclusive fraternal organisations. Our members come from every walk of life – business and trades, science and the arts, education and public service – united by a commitment to friendship, self-development and service to the community.

Who We Are

Founded on the principles of Brotherly Love, Relief (charity) and Truth, Freemasonry encourages members to live with integrity and compassion.
While we value our history and symbolism, we are equally focused on today’s society: supporting local charities, mentoring young people and building lifelong friendships that cross generations.

Highlights of Bournemouth Freemasonry include:

  • Meetings in our beautiful Freemasons’ Hall, a notable Bournemouth landmark open for tours and community events.
  • Active involvement in local and national charitable causes, from food banks to medical research.
  • A membership as diverse as modern Britain, welcoming men of all ages, backgrounds and professions.

Why Join

Each Mason’s story is unique, yet many are drawn to the Craft for shared reasons.

  • Friendship and Belonging – a welcoming circle of like-minded people who share common values.
  • Personal Growth – exploring moral lessons and leadership skills through time-honoured ceremonies.
  • Community Impact – taking part in charitable projects that make a real difference across Dorset and the UK.

Whether you are fascinated by history, passionate about helping others, or simply keen to meet new friends, Freemasonry offers a rewarding path with purpose and meaning.

Becoming a Freemason

Joining is more straightforward than many imagine. Find out a little more.

Applicants should:

  • Believe in a Supreme Being, interpreted according to their own faith or understanding.
  • Be at least 18 years old and of good character.
  • Be able to dedicate some time and meet modest membership costs.

Traditionally a current Mason introduces a candidate, but if you do not yet know a member that is no barrier. Your genuine interest matters most. Simply get in touch and we will guide you through an informal, friendly process.

Charity at the Heart

Charity is central to UK Freemasonry.
Bournemouth Freemasons proudly support local initiatives such as children’s hospices and community shelters while also contributing to national appeals and international disaster relief. Our members give both time and resources to help those in need.

The Freemasons’ Hall on Knole Road is not just a meeting place; it is an important part of Bournemouth’s architectural and social history. We regularly host open days and special events where visitors can explore the building, learn about the Craft and meet members in a relaxed setting.
